How to Attend E3

E3 is just wrapping up for this year, but if you want to get in to next year’s event, you need to be planning right now. The past few E3s have all been industry-exclusive geek culture events.

That means that if you don’t work in the gaming industry in some capacity, then you aren’t getting an invite. Game developers, PR people, game publishers and gaming journalists all get invites, but everyone else has to watch from the sidelines. If you aren’t in one of those positions, then you are out of luck. You can still watch the livestream, but you don’t get to try out the games and meet with the game developers.

So how do you get in to an event that you aren’t invited to? Security is tight there, so sneaking in is a no-no. Your best bet is going to be getting involved in the gaming industry. Just about everybody involved in geek culture wants to be in the gaming industry in some capacity, but it can be difficult to break through.

If you are developing your own game, then you might have a shot at getting in, but the event is usually reserved for big publishers.

You would do better to try to start up a gaming journalism site or join an existing one. Many gaming sites are pretty easy to work for if you know the industry well, so if you want to attend E3 next year, you should start applying right now.
